The Baker Theatre building was initially utilized as a livery stable. The building was repurposed as a vaudeville theatre venue, debuting in 1902 as The Baker Theatre. In it unclear whether the theatre began exhibiting motion pictures while continuing vaudeville programs during the silent era.

The theatre name was changed to the Playhouse Theatre in 1932. Portland’s street numbering changed in 1933.

The theatre’s subsequent names were Dufwin, Alcazar, Music Box and El Capitan but it is unclear whether any of these names were in use during the silent era. This theatre’s operation as the Music Box Theatre may not be concurrent with the existence of the Music Box Theatre on Broadway at Stark Street.

The building was demolished in 1954.
