(1921) United States of America
B&W : Two reels
Directed by Dick Smith
Cast: Arthur Marx (Harpo Marx) [Watson, the romantic lead], [?] Jobyna Ralston or Helen Kane? [his girl], Julius Marx (Groucho Marx) [the heavy], Leonard Marx (Chico Marx) [his Italian henchman], Herbert Marx (Zeppo Marx) [?] [the playboy nightclub owner]?, [?] Mr. Ralston?, [?] Mrs. Ralston?
Caravel Comedy Company production. / Produced by Al Posen. From a screen story by Jo Swerling (Sr.). Cinematography by A.H. Vallet. / Standard 35mm spherical 1.33:1 format. / Although the film was not formally completed, [?] a rough edit? of the film was apparently shown once (at a Bronx, New York, matinee), then [?] Groucho or the Marx Brothers? alledgedly purchased the film rights and had the sole print destroyed, with the film negative left in producer Al Posen’s possession which was lost in the late 1920s. [?] Evidence of research mentions Jobyna Ralston, Esther Ralston, Helen Kane and Mildred Davis as possibly being the leading actress; we feel that a production photograph supports the presence of Helen Kane in the cast. The film is often confused with an unproduced film project from 1926.
