Pathé Frères was an early production and distribution company. Pathé acquired the Lumière cinematic patents in 1902.
Pathé Frères also controlled an American company with studios at Fort Lee and Bound Brook, New Jersey, and a studio in Germany under the name of Pathé, and an American distribution company formed in 1914 under the name of Pathé Exchange, Incorporated. A Swedish company named Pathé, controlled by Pathé, was absorbed by Hasselbladfilm to form Filmindustri Aktiebolaget Skandia.
