Jean Forest shines as the young, troubled Jean Amster in this tremendous Jacques Feyder film, with support from Pierrette Houyez, Rachel Devirys, Henri Duval and Victor Vina. A truly beautiful film.

This NTSC DVD edition, originally produced for home video by Lobster Films, Paris, reveals a full-frame, natural-speed video transfer from good to very-good 35mm source prints. Tonal ranges are generally broad, with highlight and shadow details well-maintained in this transfer that looks good on high-definition television equipment capable of image upscaling. The print has a moderate amount of dust and speckling, fine scratches, sprocket damage, missing frames due to print breakage, schmutz, mild frame jitters, and other minor flaws.

The film is accompanied by a music score by Antonio Coppola, performed by the Octuor de France. A pleasant listening experience.

This is our recommended home video edition of the film, however, we feel that the time is due for a remastered high-definition edition.
