At first glance, the premise of this book would seem to be of marginal interest to the silent film enthusiast with its theatrical focus and regional limitation, but Eric L. Flom has written of book of unusual insights into the ‘other side’ of the professional lifes of many silent film actors. This encapsulated view of famed motion picture actors’ stage careers before, during and after the highlights of their film successes readjusts our thinking about the seemingly detached world of film stardom.
Among the motion picture actors highlighted in the book are Ethel Barrymore, John Barrymore, Lionel Barrymore, Charles Chaplin, Sidney Drew, Douglas Fairbanks, Stan Laurel, Nell Shipman and others.
The institutional pricing of the book may put off some readers given its specialized focus. We feel the quality of the information within just warrants the cost.
